Tape Players and Room Sound (amplified inactivity)

about

Summer of 2014, I did a lot of experimentation with tape. I bought a bunch of walkman style and handheld player / recorders and a bunch of tapes to record over from thrift stores. Much of the resulting recordings will be released over the next year.

This is one experiment I did. I rather like it, but don't think I'll try to do any more of an 'official' release than this.

The method:

I recorded my work space in the morning on one tape. Most of the sound in the room was the sound of fans. I went about my business quietly. Generally speaking, the sound doesn't fluctuate much... nothing 'happened' of note, just room sound.

I repeated this step while playing back the original tape on another tape player nearby.

Then I repeated that step one more time, playing back both previously recorded tapes.

What we hear then is room sound enhanced by the vagaries of the tape recordings and lo-fi amplification.
