about

In memory of Heather Heyer, and with admiration and encouragement to all heroes of anti-fascism.
In memory of the victims of the Ghost Ship Fire, in admiration and encouragement to all who work to provide and maintain safe spaces for DIY art.

The fire at Ghost Ship and the Unite the Right violence happened eight months apart. It was a very bleak, traumatic time. It's hard for me to not think of these two events as closely connected in my emotional space, part of a chain of terrible events. After months of 4chan nazis organizing to attempt to shut down any DIY space they could identify under the guise of safety concerns, (safety is a legitimate and important concern, but the true aim of these particular rightwing extremist activists was to shut down DIY art spaces), the first performance I did after Ghost Ship occurred on the very day of the Unite the Right rally. I'm glad I was able to make music with friends on that day, rather than just being shellshocked, afraid, angry, sad because of what had just happened.

This album was released on the third anniversary of the fire.
Special thanks to Tracy Harms for photos and video, to J. Hamilton Isaacs for organizing the concert at Ubisububi Room, and to Carl Ritger for the recording and organizing the concert at Bar Max.
