about

It's fascinating to me how my musical projects get tangled up in the complications of my emotional life. My albums come to seem like diary entries. The agonies and ecstasies that made up the time this album has been in the works can not be conveyed in words. Flipping between distressed extremes has not left me the same person.

Play loud.

Recorded mostly during late 2017 and early 2018.
A lot of the sounds on this album cost nothing to produce, and are available to anyone.
Most of the sounds came from free VST synths.
There is also some synthesis done by editing tiny snippets of waveforms together in an audio editor, and some treated samples of drum machines.

The voices scattered throughout the album came from an old feature on LiveJournal where you could call in an audio-post on a telephone. LiveJournal had a feed of these phone posts from all of its users sitewide constantly updating on one of its pages. Back whenever that was sometime in the Zeroes I used to enjoy listening to random people's phone posts, with no knowledge of who they were or what the context was of their posts. I saved a bunch of them to a folder for later use. I don't know who the people are that made the recordings.

Here and there are also some tiny little samples of the following:
Muslimgauze
Plaid
White Magic
Legendary Pink Dots
Unknown White Label

"Nothing in a Caterpillar" was the first track composed for this project. I had a dream that the estate of Buckminster Fuller wanted to give me exclusive rights to release some music he had secretly recorded while he was alive. Marc Weidenbaum took this dream and made a prompt / challenge out of it for his Disquiet Junto project, #226. So I made this track to participate in his challenge to make music as one would imagine music by Fuller might've sounded. It was done in May 2016.

The Writhe is an improvisation with Roland Rhythm 77 & effects with some of those free soft synths overdubbed later.

Regarding 18: At the time I’m writing this, I’ve yet to hear the original Alice Cooper song, only this anonymous and earnest rendition over a telephone line.

No Coincidence is an hommage to Chris Phinney & Hal McGee, specifically their album Coincidence. There are a couple of themes in the song that build off themes from that album.

This is important, and I hope everyone takes a moment to think about it:
Organized, concentrated wealth is counter to all life on Earth.
If life is to continue, it must be destroyed.
